DIET – A PROFILE


This institution was previously known as Junior Basic Training School for girls, started functioning w.e.f July 7, 1954 under the then Punjab Education Department. It became a co-educational institute in 1982, so that both boys and girls could get training together under the new education policy of 1986. It was promoted to be District Institute of Education & Training in 1989. The new building of DIET Dharamshala was inaugurated on 27th of June 1998.

Housed in a serene and sprawling atmosphere, it has all the facilities like classrooms, laboratory, reading rooms, arts wing, Hostel playground and computer for both pre-service and in–service trainings.

This institute has impeccable credentials as a premier institute in the field of Primary Education & is one of the oldest such institutes in north India. More than 7000 teacher trainees have passed out from this institute who have made DIET Kangra as one of the best training institutes of India.

Along with imparting pre-service teacher training all its wings are actively involved and imparting academic support to the SAMAGRA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN.Situated in the southern most tip of Dharamshala city, best known and acknowledged for the seat of Tibetan spiritual political leader H.H. THE DALAI LAMA & fast rising international cricket stadium , this institute is a part of Education Department area , reserved for educational activities by the Britishers, can boast of the University, the Regional centre , the Degree College , the B.Ed. College , the senior secondary school in its vicinity.

The DIET, located in Ward No. 7 (MC DHARAMSHALA), is only at a 5 minutes walk from H.P BOARD OF SCHOOL EDUCATION BUS STOP and 15 minutes walk from Kachehri Bus Stop of Dharamshala.
